The name Pavlovsk comes from the name of the Emperor Pavel - or Paul I, who was the son of Catherine the Great. The Grand Palace of Pavlovsk was designed in the Classical style by the most prominent architects of that time: Giacomo Quarenghi, Vincenzo Brenna, Andrew Voronikhin, Carlo Rossi (most of them came from Italy). The Palace became a repository of objects d'arte which Paul I and his wife had acquired during their honeymoon travel, among them were original antique statues and European paintings. The charm of the Palace is enhanced by the beauty of a large romantic style garden, which it forms an integral whole with. On the way to Pavlovsk tourists can have lunch at a famous restaurant "Podvorye" which offers a big range of local specialties and a folk show.
