South Ossetia is an Unrecognized Country in the South Caucasus. It is internationally recognized as part of Georgia but gained de-facto independence in 2008 during the Russia-Georgia war.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Vladikavkaz

Stop At: Vladikavkaz, Vladikavkaz, Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, North Caucasian District
Arrival at 10:40 by Aeroflot

Spend the rest of the day in the city: walk around, visit museums, meet cultural or history experts

Night in “Alexandrovsky” hotel or similar accommodations

Day 2: Djery Dzuar and Tskhinval

Stop At: Tskhinvali, Tskhinvali, Shida Kartli Region
In the morning we leave Vladikavkaz to South Ossetia. First of all we’ll go to Djery Dzuar - the most respected shrine in South Ossetia

Drive to Tskhinval

Walk around the town with a veteran who fought for city from 1989 until 2008

Night in “Uyut” hotel or similar accommodations

Day 3: Tskhinval and Znaur District

Stop At: Tskhinvali, Tskhinvali, Shida Kartli Region
In the morning we'll walk around Tskhinval and explore the city

Visit the National museum

Drive to the western part of the country to see medieval shrines and towers

Drive to Tskinval in the evening and meet an Ossetian cultural expert

Night in the “Uyut” hotel or similar accommodations

Day 4: Mejida Valley

Stop At: Tskhinvali, Tskhinvali, Shida Kartli Region
In the morning we'll go to Leningor, the residence of Ksani eristavs - Ossetian dukes, who were one of the most powerful aristocrats in Georgia

Visit the palace of Eristas and then go back to Mejida valley

Hike to hike to Usanet shrine, which is on the top of a hill with spectacular mountain view

Walk down to the tower of the Margitae family, placed on the on the edge of a cliff

Evening in Tskhinval

Night in the “Uyut” hotel or similar accommodations

Day 5: Urstualta Valley

Stop At: Tskhinvali, Tskhinvali, Shida Kartli Region
Early morning drive out of Tskhinval

Drive to Urstualta valley

Hike in the highlands of the country

See medieval towers, taste suars (mineral water springs) and have an early dinner with locals

Drive to the Tsey valley (Russia)

Night in the “Vertikal” hotel or similar accommodations

Day 6: Departure

Walk to the Rekom shrine (one of the most important Ossetian shrines) in the early morning
