Akilah Experience

We offer a cultural walking tour led by our amazing Akilah student guides. This tour gives you insight into local life for young people through the eyes of Rwanda's future leaders.

We meet at the Akilah Cafe for a refreshment and snack as well an introduction to Akilah's education and leadership model. We'll take a short tour of campus and then walk from Akilah to the Nyamirambo neighborhood.

On our tour, we will learn about the history of Nyamirambo - one of Rwanda's oldest and culturally vibrant neighborhoods- from students who live here. We stop at a local milk bar, visit local shops, walk along beautiful scenic views, and visit cultural centers. We also visit Nyamirambo Women's Center for local craft shopping.

All proceed from this tour benefit our mission of educating future leaders to champion opportunity & sustainability in solving the world’s most pressing challenges.

We will pass by the market, so you can experience a local marketplace.

Stop At: Club Rafiki, Avenue de la Nyabarongo, Kigali, Rwanda

Club Rafiki (est. in 1976) is a youth center that provides a library, volley ball, basketball, and activities to local youth in Nyamirambo. Club Rafiki has a dream of contributing to the development of young people so that they grow in body and mind and are able to play a significant role in development.

Stop At: Nyamirambo Women's Centre, KN 7 Ave, Kigali, Rwanda

Our first stop is at Nyamirambo Women's Centre, where you learn about their social mission and get the chance to buy products made in-house by the sewing collective!
