Pottery, Welding & Woodworking Tour in Kigali

The workshop is an opportunity to understand the beauty and challenges that the traditional artisans face every day. The community of potters are a historically marginalized population. Community members face extreme poverty, food insecurity, unemployment and discrimination.

Itinerary

We first introduce the community members before a short walk to the fields where we learn how to dig up and carry the raw clay. Once we reach the workshop, the potters take us through the clay cleaning and treatment process. We then start a fun design process in which visitors are given an opportunity to create their own bowls, plates, vases or other flat items.

We then take a break to interact with the members of the community and share meal with the potters while our little pots dry in the sun.

We then master the traditional drying techniques and watch our creative vases take shape in the oven. Once our vases cool down, it’s time for farewells and to drive back to our hotel.
