Raffles City is located is in the heart of the Civic District, where the colonial authorities housed many important buildings. In fact, the mall sits on the site of the citys first colonial school - the Raffles Institution. The school was established almost 200 years ago by Sir Stamford Raffles, modern Singapores founder.

The fountain is a memorial to Tan Kim Seng, a wealthy merchant who was also actively involved in public life. He funded the construction of Singapores first public reservoir now called MacRitchie Reservoir which was completed in 1877.

The Padang (Malay for 'field') is an open playing field located within the Downtown Core of the Central Area in Singapore.

The steel ribbed Anderson Bridge was built in 1910 to facilitate the growing traffic. Today, the bridge remains the oldest bridge across the river still open to vehicular traffic.

Bras Basah gets its name from the Malay term for wet rice, which was once laid out to dry on the banks of a nearby river.
