Caving in Kalk Bay
We start at Kalkbay train station and then begin our hike though echo valley with great views over Kalk bay harbour. We hike for about an hour before we get to our first cave which is named Boomslang (tree snake). It is named that way because you have to crawl on your hands and knees to enter. After a short while the cave opens up into a big chamber where we can stand and stretch out. After 20 minutes of exploring the cave we get to the second exit which has magnificent views over Fish hoek.
We walk about 20 minutes along the top where you can see both ocean's before we arrive at the entrance to our second cave named Robin Hood. Once we exit the cave (no shame if you didn't manage it this is an extremely challenging cave) we will have our fantastic lunch together before we all return down the trail though echo valley to the station. Once we reach the bottom a well deserved ice cold beer which I will provide awaits at the brass bell for us to enjoy.
We traverse the cave entering in one side by crawling (hence the name Boomslang) and exit on the other side of the mountain. When we leave the cave we are greeted by splendid views of Fish Hoek. From here we head to Robin Hood Cavern next which is much more challenging before returning to Kalk Bay.
