Monte Corona Volcano and Cliff Hike from Lanzarote

This medium level trek takes us to the ridge of the largest crater in the north of Lanzarote. We begin our ascent from the Ye village church, heading on to a rough landscape of young lava covered by an abundance of lichens, providing a uniquely magnificent yet surreal surrounding beauty. Once we’ve had the chance to admire the insiders view of the Monte Corona crater, we circle the volcano on a path which allows us dramatic views to appreciate the East Coast of Lanzarote in its entirety. Our continued circular route leads us directly to the northern cliffs, from here we can reach one of the best views in the Canary Islands - saving the best until last. The whole walk is medium level and covers approximately 10 km.

Your hiking tour begins with hotel pickup, then you'll begin the journey to Monte Corona Volcano.

Monte Corona is the biggest volcano in the north of Lanzarote. It is considered a young volcano (20,000 years old) and is of strombolian type, characteristic for its impressive crater and abundant lava which formed one of the longest volcanic tunnels on Earth.

The start of the walk encounters dramatic landscapes, covered by vineyards, fig trees, and the plentiful presence of fennel, which, especially in May and June impregnates the air with its delightful aroma. As the group approaches the crater, you'll appreciate a vast range of endemic plants and lichens which give a slightly surrealistic appearance to the surroundings. By circling the volcano and passing its multi-coloured lava flows the group appreciates the views of the east coast of the island in front.

The walk’s final destination are the northern cliffs, from where visitors get one of the ultimate Canary Island views.

Islets Graciosa, Montaña Clara , Alegranza and Roque del Oeste are all perfectly visible from this point and with a bit of luck visitors will be able to watch special bird species such as the Barbary or Eleonora’s Falcon, Canary raven, many song birds and sometimes the Egyptian vulture. The walk is fairly easy, in reference to physical effort; however it is necessary to have good closed walking shoes as walking on lava stones and volcanic ash can be difficult underfoot.

The tour concludes with hotel drop-off.
