Ceramics, Pottery and Ornamentation workshop with Shu’aib (Bernardo) Sánchez, founder of Al-Jarrar Ceramics.

Ceramics Al Yarrar was born in 1984 in the Granadino neighborhood of Albayzín, in a small workshop more located on the Bañuelo, in front of the Alhambra and on the banks of the Darro River.

At the head of a group of artisans, Bernardo Sánchez set out on the road to rescue the pottery tradition of Al-Andalus. After several years, the ceramic pieces and the decoration have been perfected until they reach their own and very recognized style, always keeping the basic structure and the decorative harmony of the Andalusian ceramics. Currently, our workshop is located in Atarfe, Granada.

These beginner and intermediate leather classes will give step by step instructions on the use of pottery and ceramic use, developing and implementing patterns, carving pottery designs, glazing stages, and final product. All detailed techniques will be explained and demonstrated.

We will be working with Nasrid famous watchword designs, inspired by the motifs found within the world-famous Alhambra Palace, where these designs are prominent. The memory of Granada and it’s vast Islamic heritage and tradition of arts will stay with you long after you leave the city.
