The Story of Street Art in Barcelona

Lets take a stroll around the oldest neighbourhoods in Barcelona with the theme of Street Art and Graffiti, we will begin start to scratch the surface of this beautiful city. There is a lot more than meets the eye! Authorities would turn a blind eye during the transition to democracy, to the youths who felt their names names needed to be in lights, or more specifically on walls. This scene grew and hit fever pitch in the 1990´s, a time when artists would come from all over the world to display their skills all over the city. The government has since tried to clamp down on street art in Barcelona but the scene continues to live on through incredible and socially important artwork across the city ... Despite the laws, how does the scene continue to thrive?

We will explore the oldest parts of Barcelona, the historic Raval District. The "Other" Barcelona. We will learn about the amazing city through its art and artists that everybody else walks past and explore parts of the city where you wouldn't think of going on your own. We will also not one but TWO special spots for artist to showcase their talents. One is called Jardines de las Tres Xemeneies which has work from the 'Free Wall' concept. The other is a secret!
