Walking - Tajo del Abanico Circular - 10km - Easy Level
This is an easy walk from Ronda and back. The Tajo del
Abanico is a hidden gem - a limestone rock gorge which
ends at a towering rock named The Fan due to its
unusual shape, formed from many centuries of wind and
rain erosion of the limestone rock cliffs. The route takes
you through a quiet valley, past beautiful rock formations
and along the remains of a medieval cobbled pathway.
On the route to the Tajo del Abanico you will pass the Preachers Tower from where you can enjoy
fabulous views across the valley towards Ronda town, the cliffs and gorge.
We can finish this walk either on the plaza of one of Rondas oldest districts, the Barrio San Francisco, overlooked by the mediaeval Almocobar Gate and church of Espirtitu Santu, or we can head down asteep cobbled road to a pathway which leads under the Puente Nuevo bridge and then climb up the side of the gorge to finish in the old town.
See the hidden gem of the Tajo del Abanico, walk along an ancient cobble stone path and see spectacular views of Rondas cliffs and gorge.
