Itinerary

Day 1: Sigiriya

Stop At: Sigiriya Craft Village, Kimbissa, Sigiriya Sri Lanka
The handicrafts village in Sigiriya was established in 2003 and it has facilities for maintenance of a number of various fields of handicraft. 48 stalls have been set up in this village for handicraftsmen. If you wish to buy authentic fabrics and other items of Sri Lanka, Step into the village and you will be exposed to various shops selling batiks, brass-works, ornamental pots, handloom textiles, wood carvings and silver jewelry. Shopkeepers let the visitors to witness the craftwork of the craftsmen as well. Nice place to hang out for some time and buy a souvenir for the journey

Stop At: Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress, Sigiriya 21120 Sri Lanka
Sigiriya or Sinhagiri (Lion Rock Sinhala: සීගිරිය, Tamil: சிகிரியா, pronounced see-gi-ri-yə) is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the Central Province, Sri Lanka. The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 metres (660 ft) high.

Stop At: Sigiriya Museum, Sigiriya Thalkotta Sigiriya Thalkotta, Sigiriya, Central Province, Sigiriya 21120 Sri Lanka
The entrance to the Sigiriya Museum is through a brick tunnel that is designed in the same way as the archway of Water Garden of the Sigiriya Royal City Complex. Inside this newly built museum exhibits human skeletons, clay objects, tools, jewellery, sculptures and carvings, which were found from archaeological excavations at Sigiriya and its surrounding area. Some are iron and bronze objects that portray the prehistoric and historic cultural evolution in Sri Lanka. The galleries at the Museum are filled with drawings and photographs but these do not provide much technical information. These commodities and materials have cultural, technological and archaeological value, and provide an indication about cultural evolution in the region from Prehistoric times to the reign of King Kasyapa which extends from 10,000 yr B.P to 1,520 yr B.P.

Day 2: Kandy via Dambulla

Stop At: Golden Temple of Dambulla, Dambulla 21100 Sri Lanka
A sacred pilgrimage site for 22 centuries, this cave monastery, with its five sanctuaries, is the largest, best-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka. The Buddhist mural paintings (covering an area of 2,100 m2 ) are of particular importance, as are the 157 statues.

Stop At: Kandy Lake, Centre of Kandy City, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
Kandy Lake, also known as Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk, is an artificial lake in the heart of the hill city of Kandy, Sri Lanka, built in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe next to the Temple of the Tooth. Over the years, it was reduced in size. It is a protected lake, with fishing banned.

The market is spread over two floors with a small courtyard in the center with landscaped gardens

The market is an ideal place to see local life… Downstairs is where locals buy their goodies; if you are a visitor, you will find loads of fun in chatting to the vendors and examining their wares. It’s a market which sells absolutely everything… They want to do deals and they want to sell… their faces will fall if you show no intentions of buying…

Upon entering, you will at once, notice all sorts of sweets for sale. Then comes the fruits and spices part! Wet fish, dried fish, meat, vegetables and spices! All sorts of dried food items.

Upstairs is more for buying clothes, shoes, medicine and crafts. Many of the clothes in the US are made in Sri Lanka, so you can get a good deal on branded clothes.

You’ll hardly be able to pass a single stall without an invitation to buy.

It doesn’t matter that you don’t want spices, or an extra pair of shoes, the vendors will be on the attack and it’s likely that you will end up loaded with lovely things that you really don’t need.

…and yes… you will be walking away feeling happy….

Day 3: Nuwara Eliya

Stop At: Temple of the Tooth, Sri Dalada Maligawa, Sri Dalada Veediya, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple.

It is also a popular tourist destination

Lake Gregory (Sinhala: ග්‍රෙගරි වැව), sometimes also called Gregory Lake or Gregory Reservoir, is a reservoir in heart of the tea country hill city, Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka. Lake Gregory was constructed during the period of British Governor Sir William Gregory in 1873.[2] The lake and the surrounding area make up the Gregory Lake Area.
