Kaudulla national park
Every year, during this period, large numbers of elephants migrate between the corridors of the Kaudulla National Park and the Minneriya National Park. Between July and September, at the height of the dry season, elephants gather at the tank of the Minneriya Wewa to feast on the fresh shoots of the lush green grass. Their numbers rise as many as between 200-300 elephants recorded during this time. This annual event is popularly known as "The Gathering".
Kaudulla National Park is also home to a wide variety of habitats, ranging from wetland to the tropical forest, aquatic and other types of birds can be sighted here. There are also macaques, sambar, deer, water buffaloes, jackal to be observed.

The distance from the Colombo to Sigiriya is approximately 177km and is on the way to Anuradhapura or Polonnaruwa. This site is astonishing even today; an enormous block of stone rises more than 500 feet from the scrub jungles to accentuate the bright blue of the sky. How forcefull, then this rock fortress of Sigiriya must have been when it was crowned as a palace many centuries ago. Sigiriya is one of the most beautiful royal cities that ever graced the earth. It is perhaps the single most eminent memory for visitors to Sri Lanka.
