Eric Suriyasena is an artist, a designer, and one of Sri Lankas leading Batik connoisseurs. For almost half a century he has taken the traditional and very ancient craft of dyeing on cloth using a wax resist method, and pioneered the Batik medium as a fine art, and an elegant fashion statement. Mr.Suriyasena himself will greet you at his his private factory in the city of Marawila.
Each visitor will select a design art from the hundreds of available options or you can bring your own art design. A mentor will provide you with the correct fabric to suit your selected design. Then Mr.Suriyasena will teach you how to engage in the traditional dyeing on cloth using a wax resist method.Take a break from this exciting session as you wait for your creation to dry by enjoying the local hospitality of tea and snacks. Souvenir shopping to take home a professional batik is available at the end.
Later on experience the traditional methods of Pottery by a village of dedicated potters.

Learn How to Make Traditional Batik with Sri Lanka's Premier Artist!
Enjoy a Batik experience with one of Sri Lankas leading artists, designer and master of Batik creations, Mr Eric Suriyasena. He will meet you at his private factory premises located in the city of Marawila. This is where he used to create his unique designs and experiment extensively. Batik art uses a unique method of wax resist and then dyeing the cloth over and over to create multicoloured designs. You can also select a design art from those available or use your own art design. The mentors will then provide you with the appropriate fabric to suit your selected design. Thereafter you will learn how to engage in the traditional dyeing on cloth using a wax resist method. You can enjoy a relaxing time with refreshments along with your host while your creations dry out and are ready.
Pottery Industry Experience!
Apart from using pottery or clay products for household uses, they were also utilized for religious and cultural practices. Visit a family engaged in traditional pottery for generations with the trade being conducted by all three generations within the family, see the traditional methods they use in making their products and you may also get a chance to try your hand at pottery! Follow this by visiting a modern outfit producing roof tiles. Although the raw material and the process may seem similar, there is a vast difference in the age-old and modern machinery being used.
