Day 1: Dar es Salaam City

Dar es Salaam & Amboni Caves tour is a 3 days tour which include a visiting of Dar es Salaam City and Inter City transfer to Tanga region to visit the Amboni Caves which are the mostly unique and long existed lime structured caves with amazing historical background in East Africa.

The Amboni Caves are the most extensive limestone caves in East Africa. They are located 8 km north of Tanga City in Tanzania. The caves were formed about 150 million years ago during the Jurassic age. It covers an area of 234 km². According to researchers the area was under water some 20 million years ago. There are altogether ten caves but only one is used for guided tours.

Amboni Limited, a company which was then operating sisal plantations in Tanga Region acquired the area in 1892. The company notified the British colonial government about the caves who in turn declared the caves a conservation area in 1922.

It is not known when the caves were exactly discovered but reports indicate that ethnic groups such as the Segeju, Sambaa, Bondei and Digo who lived near the caves used it for prayers.

In 1963, the then government of Tanganyika handed over the caves to the Department of Antiquities.

Day 1,
Arrive in Dar es Salaam International Airport, after meet and greet your local Guide will pick you for 7 hours of a guided tour in the City, thereafter you will be escorted to your hotel of choice for dinner and overnight stay. Depending on your arrival time, your Guide can arrange an evening tour or nightlife tour.

Day 2: Dar es Salaam to Tanga Region

Stop At: Dar es Salaam, Dar es Salaam, Dar Es Salaam Region
Day 2,
After breakfast, leave for 5 hours drive to Tanga region. Arrive in Tanga at 10:00 hours, after check in to your hotel of choice, go and visit the Amboni Caves and then stop for a lunch break. After lunch proceed for a City tour of Tanga town. Thereafter, drive back to your hotel of choice for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Tanga to Dar es Salaam City

Stop At: Tanga, Tanga, Tanga Region
Day 3,
After breakfast, leave Tanga for a 5 hours drive to Dar es Salaam City for departure to mark the END OF TOUR or proceed with a trip a next trip of your choice with your Guide if arranged in advance.
