The Ngorongoro conservation area is home to the crater from which it is named. This volcanic crater formed about 2 million years ago by collapsing on itself, leaving a large circus about 20 km in diameter. With the passage of time, its surface, devoid of life at that time, has been transformed into an authentic garden of Eden for its inhabitants. Where one day the lava boiled, an immense plain of green meadows expands today, surrounded by the steep walls of the volcano. Lakes and extensive meadows inside the crater and lush rainforest on its walls, meet the necessary requirements to house and preserve a large number of animals.
