The unique circular crater, with a crater rim 7,500 feet above sea level, is also home to hippo, rhino and buffalo and much more. Small but rich in wildlife, Lake Manyara is your next destination, in the Great Rift Valley. Here, as well as the renowned populations of flamingos and pelicans. Endless plains of the Serengeti for a chance to see the great herds of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles or a pride of lions.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

The tour starts with lunch in Arusha town at 1230hrs. 1330hrs, drive to Tarangire National Park. Tarangire National Park is dominated by the perennial Tarangire River and is characteristically known for its giant baobab trees that stretches and wind their branches into the blue sky. The most spectacular feature of Tarangire is its large elephant population. It has the largest population of any park in northern Tanzania. These gentle giants abound more than 3,000. Tarangire is currently experiencing and elephant baby boom and you will notice a lot of juniors and babies as members of the herd. Also expect to see zebra, eland, mongoose, giraffe, bushbuck, hartebeest, dik-dik, impala, warthog, and reedbuck. Primates you may encounter are an olive baboon, velvet monkey, and bushbaby. Many carnivores are abundant throughout the park such as lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, and jackal

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

Morning and afternoon game drives in the Tarangire National Park. You can choose to have a full day with picnic lunch served in the bush or you can have morning game drive and return to the accommodation for hot lunch and return for sunset game drive.

You will see zebra, eland, mongoose, giraffe, bushbuck, hartebeest, dik-dik, impala, warthog, and reedbuck. Many carnivores are abundant throughout the park such as lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, and jackal.

Day 3: Tarangire to Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast, enjoy a short drive to Lake Manyara National Park. En-route you will take the opportunity to stop and explore MtowaMbu Village. This village is considered a melting pot of the many different tribes in Tanzania. You will love to explore the busy and interesting marketplace. You will arrive at your accommodation, in time to settle in and enjoy a hot lunch. Then in the afternoon, you will enjoy a game drive in the park.

Stretching for 50km’s along the base of the 600 meters high Rift Valley Escarpment, Lake Manyara is a scenic gem, with a setting described by Ernest Hemingway as the “loveliest I had seen in Africa”. The compact game-viewing circuit through Manyara offers a virtual microcosm of the Tanzanian safari experience. From the entrance gate, the road winds through an expanse of lush jungle-like groundwater where hundred-strong baboon troops lounge nonchalantly along the roadside, blue monkeys scamper nimbly between the ancient mahogany trees, dainty bushbuck tread warily through the shadows, and forest hornbills honk high in the jungle canopy. The park is world-famous for its tree-climbing lions which you may be lucky to observe. Highlights include thousands of pink-hued flamingos, elephant, giraffe, large buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, baboons and blue monkeys.

Day 4: Lake Manyara to Lake Eyasi

Pass By: Lake Eyasi, Karatu Tanzania
Collect picnic lunches and drive to Lake Eyasi, which is a mildly alkaline lake about 50km in length. The meadows along the shores of the lake are home to leopards, hippos, various monkeys and birds. Lake Eyasi offers excellent views of the Rift Valley escarpment and is an ideal destination for relaxing and bird-watching.

Among other places, you will visit the Datoga pastoralists and members of the Hadzabe tribe. The Hadzabe are one of two remaining hunter-gatherer tribes in Tanzania. There are approximately 1500 families left in this tribe

Day 5: Go for Huting with the Bushmen Lake Eyasi

Pass By: Lake Eyasi, Karatu Tanzania
Depart for some Cultural visits in the area. Eyasi is the home of a hunter-gatherer tribe known as the Hadzabe who have withstood the progression of westernization, and still live their ancient way of life; hunting animals and gathering fruits and tubers for food. The Hadzabe are a small ethnic group that has been able to co-exist harmoniously with nature. You will also have the chance to meet the Datoga people, another small tribe with a rich cultural heritage. Lunch will be served at the camp. Late in the afternoon, drive to Karatu for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Karatu to Serengeti National Park

The wildlife encounters continue as you transfer today from Karatu into the Serengeti National Park. Your transport into the park is by Safari vehicle, and you will enjoy the magnificent views over the endless plains from the jeep as you take in your surroundings for the next 4 nights.

Enjoy visiting a traditional Maasai village where you will be greeted by the Chief who will guide you around the nearby Boma and explain the culture of the Maasai people. After saying goodbye to the Maasai people, you will head towards the Serengeti National Park. Enjoy lunch en-route as you head towards the entry gate for the world-famous Serengeti National Park. Tanzania’s oldest and most popular National Park, also a world heritage site and recently proclaimed a 7th worldwide wonder, the Serengeti is famed for its annual migration, when some six million hooves pound the open plains, as more than 200,000 zebras and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers arguably the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa

Day 7: Serengeti National Park

After breakfast in the morning, you will start a game drive in the eastern, southern or north part of the park. The aim is to get you within a comfortable driving distance of the massive herds. This does depend on the annual rains. Guides will always try to get you as close as possible, but should the herds not appear when expected, there is plenty of resident game.

Optional activities: Hot air balloon safari

On this day, Experience the wildlife of Serengeti National Park in a new, unique way. Wake up early to catch the sunrise, as you silently fly over the plain of Serengeti National Park. Admire the herds of wildebeest, buffaloes, and elephant and enjoy the Serene tranquility of the bush Africa.

You will take off early at dawn around 5:00 for a flight that lasts for approximately 1 hour. Rise as the sunrise and float in whatever direction the winds of the morning takes you. Fly higher than the trees and hills and enjoy the best Tanzania, with many great photo opportunity of the scenery and wildlife below.

After a smooth landing, you can celebrate this amazing adventure with a Bush Breakfast “Out of African Style” and followed by a glass of champagne – your driver will pick you up for your full-day game drive. Price for balloon safari is US$ 550 per person

Day 8: Serengeti National Park

The romance of a private safari is something that really needs to be experienced to understand the full impact. At sunrise, you may encounter animals grazing in the beautiful light of sunrise and predators may still be busy hunting before retiring to rest for the day. Sunrise on the Serengeti is not to be missed and extraordinary photographic opportunities will abound at this magical time of day. You have the option to return to your accommodation for a hot lunch or to opt for a packed lunch which can be enjoyed at one of the various picnic sites found in the Serengeti. After lunch, you will continue on a game drive. Around the time of dusk be on the lookout for lion. Cheetah can also be spotted on the plains in the early morning and late afternoon when temperatures are not too high. They rely on daylight and speed to catch their prey. Hippo pods can be seen in the bigger pools and rivers while crocodiles can be seen sunning themselves on the riverbanks.

Day 9: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Day 10: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

At sunrise, you descend 600 meters into the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most densely crowded African wildlife areas in the world and is home to an estimated 30,000 animals including some of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhino. Animals that you may find in the crater include wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo and elephant. Another big drawcard to this picturesque reserve is the dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. Tour the Lerai Forest with its yellow-barked acacias, searching for giant-tusked elephant, rare black rhino and black- mined lion. Bird lovers can view flamingo and other species, which share the shallow waters with a big game. You may also see Maasai herdsmen and their cattle at the crater is in their territory, and the Maasai continue to coexist with wildlife as they have for centuries. Stop for a picnic lunch near the hippo pool and watch resident hippos bobbing in the river. Ascend the crater in the early afternoon transfer to Arusha/ Moshi.
