Zanzibar Cooking Class
Visit a local market to choose your ingredients. Then, learn how to cook an entire Swahili style meal, with dessert and juice, from scratch!
This is the Spice Island also known as the Spice Capital of the World and you can certainly taste why, when you eat the local cuisine. Swahili food uses a lot of spices which makes all of their food very flavorful!
With this class, you will take a trip to the market to pick out the ingredients you will use to making a traditional Swahili meal. On the menu will be one of the traditional rice dishes (pilau or biriyani), a delicious flatbread called chapati, a staple food of cassava or banana (sweet banana or green banana), sliced fruit, and fresh fruit juice.
NOTE: Please choose pilau or biriyani AND please choose cassava, sweet banana, green banana, or spinach.
Sample Menu
• Pilau or Biriyani - Traditional rice dish.
• Cassava, Banana, or Spinach - If you choose to make a banana dish, please choose between green banana or sweet banana.
• Fresh Juice - You will be shown what is available (seasonal) and asked to pick which fruit or fruits you'd like to make the juice with.
• Chapati - A flatbread that's made Zanzibar style.
• Zanzibar Salad - Chopped vegetables with lime juice to add flavor to your main dishes.
• Fresh Fruit - Sliced fruit (based on what's seasonally available) to eat with your meal.
