Once a month, hundreds of burning candles form the backdrop for the concert that showcases everything from Balkan folk to classical concertos. Coupled with the synagogue’s renowned acoustics, it’s sure to be an incredible evening.

Arrive at central Amsterdam's Portuguese Synagogue up to 30 minutes before the performance and proceed directly to your seat. Take advantage of your early arrival by enjoying the romantic atmosphere of this magnificent 17th-century Sephardic synagogue and its hundreds of burning candles. Once the musicians take the stage, relax and enjoy an enthralling hour-long concert of timeless compositions, brought to the life by the virtuoso players and the  synagogue’s magnificent acoustics.

Grachtenfestival: Trio Rusanovsky

15 August at 20:00

The annual Grachtenfestival visits the Portuguese Synagogue again. Trio Rusanovsky (piano, viola, violin) presents a program consisting of instrumental versions of Jewish and Russian songs, combined with classical music.

Leo Smit Foundation

26 September at 20:00

The Leo Smit Foundation gathers and spreads information on composers who were persecuted during the Second World War. This time the program centers on the music of Leo Smit, Lex van Delden, Dick Kattenburg, Leon Stein and David Stock, performed on flute, viola and harp.

Noa Wildschut and Daniël Kramer

24 October at 19:30

Despite her age, violinist Noa Wildschut (18) has already gained a significant reputation in the Netherlands and abroad. A major Dutch newspaper praised her boundless musical sensitivity. Pianist Daniël Kramer will accompany her for this concert.

Lumaka

28 November at 19:30

One of the most hardworking Dutch chamber music ensembles, with a surprising combination of instruments: harp, flute and strings. The program consists of Late Romantic and Impressionist music, some of which written by Jewish Dutch composers.

Amsterdam Wind Quintet

19 December at 19:30

Music written by Felix Mendelssohn, his friends and his admirers, performed on five wind instruments, which takes full advantage of the Portuguese Synagogue’s acoustics.
