A Journey Through Dickens London

Richard Jones, the author of the book Walking Dickensian London, will take you on a tour through the life and times of England's greatest novelist Charles Dickens. You will begin at the church inside which Little Dorrit was christened, before moving on to discover the wall of the Marshalsea Prison, where Dickens's father, John, was imprisoned for debt in 1824, an event that had a profound effect on the 12-year-old Charles. You will then step into a secret garden before making your way to London's only surviving galleries coaching inn that has changed little since the days when Charles Dickens visited it. By way of the atmospheric White hart yard, where Dickens career effectively took off, you will explore the historic grounds of Guy's Hospital to view a curious artefact that Dickens would almost certainly have looked upon. The tour will finish beneath London Bridge alongside "Nacy's Stairs", where a memorable scene in Oliver Twist was set.
