Cavern Tour with Make a Blue John Stone Christmas Decoration

Your guide takes you underground to see the unique mineral called Blue John Stone, found only here in Treak Cliff Hill. On your 45 minute tour visit 7 chambers in total and see ancient fossils, rare minerals and the finest stalactites and stalagmites in the Peak District. See where our drinking water is collected direct from the cavern ceiling, and return to the entrance area to sample it in tea or coffee.
In the workshop the crafts people help you select a slice of Blue John Stone to make into a hanging Christmas Decoration. There is a variety of natural shapes and colours to choose from: combinations of white, yellow and shades of purple, but each is unique. Use abrasive paper with water to rub your stone smooth. The crafts person will show you how to use the buffing wheel to polish the Blue John. Next glue on a bell cap, when the glue is dry add a jump ring and elastic thread, you can choose either silver or gold coloured and your decoration is ready to hang up for Christmas!
