John Rylands was an incredibly wealthy cotton merchant, Manchester's first millionaire. This testament to his memory was built by his wife after his death. Now managed by Manchester University, it houses a wonderful collection of books and manuscripts.

Once described as the 'largest trading room in the world'. The old Cotton Exchange has now been beautifully converted into a theatre.
