We will also experience Dartmoor National Park & take a stroll up HayTor.

Visit a variety of beautiful tiny villages, lots interesting Towns and the main City of Plymouth.

Itinerary

Day 1: Meet & Greet. Totnes Rail Station - Or Devon Hotel. Medieval Totnes & surrounding Tour.

Stop At: Royal Seven Stars Hotel, The Plains, Totnes TQ9 5DD, UK
We will collect you from the TOTNES - TRAIN Station, [3 hours from London - 1 1/2 hours from Bristol] or your local Hotel. checking in at Local Hotel. [Royal Seven Stars - or Similar]

We meet for a Tour of Medieval TOTNES, visit the Museum, the Leech Wells - known in historical times for its supposed healing properties, free time to explore the individually owned shops of

Totnes now known as something of an ‘Alternative’ town !

Recommend Restaurants & Pubs to visit. If time permits local visits to SHARPHAM Vineyard, ASHPRINGTON & TUCKENHAY. [made famous by Chef Keith Floyd]

Day 2: CORNWALL - St Ives, possibly one of the most picturesque villages in the UK

Stop At: St Ives Harbour Beach, Wharf Road, St Ives TR26 1LG England
St Ives, tour of this very pretty and very popular Cornish Town. Option to visit TATE St Ives - exhibiting work by modern British artists with links to the St Ives area. (Entrance fee not included). Free time in this former fishing village now renowned for its number of artists.

Pass By: Fistral Beach, Newquay TR7 1HY, UK
NEWQUAY - The Surf capital of the UK, beautiful beaches.

Stop At: Padstow Harbour, Padstow PL28 8DT England
Stopping a PADSTOW [or known locally as ‘Pad stein’ - Chef Rick Stein really put this pretty fishing village on the map. Free time to explore & or purchase ‘Fish & Chips’!

Stop At: Harbour, Port Isaac, Cornwall, Slipway Hotel Garage, Port Isaac England
A quick drive up to Port Isaac (film location for the DOC MARTIN ITV series, Poldark and many others) to experience this tiny but very quaint 700 year old Cornish fishing village.
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Bodmin Moor, Bodmin England
Driving back across Bodmin Moor, & if time permits a brief stop at Jamaica Inn, having an association with smuggling, it was the setting for Daphne du Maurier's 1936 novel Jamaica Inn, which was made into the film Jamaica Inn in 1939 by Alfred Hitchcock. Driving back across the Moor and the old abandoned WW2 Airfield at Davidstow.

Day 3: PLYMOUTH, Devonport, & DARTMOOR,

Stop At: Plymouth Hoe, 1 The Hoe, Plymouth PL1 2NY England
Drive down to PLYMOUTH and around Devonport.

Through the famous Barbican & up to the Hoe. Where Sir Francis Drake was not going to be disturbed playing bowls, as the Spanish Amarda was sited out at sea. Finishing his game, off he went to sort them out! Panoramic views.

We will also see where the Mayflower left from to explore the Americas. Plymouth was very badly damaged during WW2 [being a major Naval base] interesting 1950/60’s architecture and city centre rebuild.

Stop At: Tavistock Pannier Market, Market Road, Dartmoor National Park, Tavistock PL19 0AL England
Leaving north from Plymouth drive across the edge of Dartmoor to the ancient stannary town of TAVISTOCK. & a look around the traditional Pannier Market

Stop At: Dartmoor National Park, United Kingdom
Now onto Dartmoor National Park. Wild ponies, sheep & cattle roam across this stunning landscape.

Stop At: Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centre - Haytor, Haytor Vale, Newton Abbot TQ13 9XT, UK
Stretch your legs by a short walk up to HAY TOR. [the highest Tor on Dartmoor], stunning views over the baron moor, right down to the coast on a clear day. [lots of Photo opportunities]

Stop At: Church House Cente of Widecombe Village, Widecombe in the Moor, Dartmoor National Park TQ13 7TA England
WIDECOMBE in the MOOR. Famous for ‘Uncle Tom Cobbly....’!

In 2010, Widecombe-in-the-Moor became one of the filming locations for the Steven Spielberg film ‘War Horse’.

Stop At: Totnes Guildhall, Ramparts Walk, Totnes England
Driving back to Totnes via ASHBURTON, with a brief stop and explore if we have time. A pretty and unchanged typical little Devon market Town. Stroll up Totnes Fore St, see Totnes Arch, the Museum and the medieval Guildhall.

Day 4: DARTMOUTH & South Hams [Hamlets of Devon] An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Stop At: Bayards Cove Fort, Dartmouth's inner harbour, Dartmouth TQ6 9AN England
After hotel Check Out, drive down to DARTMOUTH, visit BAYARDS Cove. Free time to explore this pretty maritime town at the mouth of the river Dart. Long associated with naval officer training. Drive to view the Castle.

Pass By: Blackpool Sands, A379, Dartmouth England
Negotiating the Narrow Devon lanes through so many pretty villages, STOKE FLEMING & STRETE, passing perhaps the most picturesque Beach in the UK, BLACKPOOL SANDS.

Stop At: Slapton Sands, Slapton, Kingsbridge TQ72TQ England
Driving through this ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ [one of only 46 in the whole of the UK] sunning Coastal views towards START POINT Lighthouse & Start Bay. Down to SLAPTON SANDS.

This whole area was evacuated during 1944 to practise the D Day landings - very interesting & tragic story [around 700 US marines lost their lives here]. My mother and her family of 6 were evacuated together with all the cattle from their farm.

Stop At: The Sherman Tank Memorial Site, Slapton, Kingsbridge England
On to TORCROSS to visit the WW2 memorial site - see the Sherman Tank as was recovered from the Sea in the 1980’s

This area as with Slapton Sands was part of Operation TIGER, and was mentioned on a FOYLES WAR episode.

Stop At: Stokeley Farm Shop, Stokeley Barton Farm, Kingsbridge TQ7 2SE, UK
Visit the South Hams BREWERY quick tour & SAMPLES!

Famous Stokeley Farm Shop for a proper Devon Cream TEA, clotted Cream, Strawberry Jam and home made Scones.

Stop At: Transition Town Totnes, Staverton Room, 36A Fore St, Totnes TQ9 5RP, UK
Return to TOTNES RAIL STATION - in time for you to get your return train. [or coach or Car park or Hotel.]
