Uncomfortable Oxford - Walking Tour
Learn about the 'uncomfortable' side of Oxford - imperialism, discrimination, elitism and a long history of conflict.
Our tours are run by students from the university with the goal of creating more discussions about difficult histories. Participants learn about Oxford's historical connections and modern approaches to global debates still ongoing in the world: repatriation, reparations, decolonisation, breaking class and gender barriers, and the people who have been left out of the traditional stories of the city.
Uncomfortable Oxford was founded by Oxford University students as an intellectually engaging alternative to the general tours of the city. As historians, we have researched and designed tours which encourage engagement with topics which are often uncomfortable to talk about.
