Behind the stately facades of Brooklyn Heights’ most gracious brownstones lies the history of firebrand feminism! The "wise women of Brooklyn” were doctors, lawyers, educators and orators who made some of the foremost contributions to the Suffrage movement. Join us for a walk through their neighborhood. As we make our way between the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and the Old Bridge Street Church, we'll discover suffrage history at the home a noted playwright, find out why the Brooklyn Bridge is a feminist icon, and see how the Brooklyn Academy of Music set the stage for the Women’s Movement.

We'll begin at 158 Hicks Street, home to Brooklyn's original suffrage pioneer. On Montague Street, we'll find out about how one of the nation's earliest female lawyers pioneered "Law Lectures for Women."

Pass By: Brooklyn Heights, Pierrepont St & Henry ST, Brooklyn, NY

Along the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, we'll see how some of New York's most iconic monuments, including the Statue of Liberty, are really monuments to the women's movement

Pass By: Pierrepont Manor, Pierrepont Manor, New York

Then, we'll turn onto Pierrepont Street, a veritable headquarters of suffrage ferment, where women fought for political as well as professional rights.

Finally, we'll end at the Old Bridge Street Church, a stop on the underground railroad, and a monument to freedom and equality of all kinds.
