Built in 1896, the McLaren Lodge was for 47 years the home of John McLaren, the Park Superintendent and caretaker of Golden Gate Park. In front of the Lodge is a Monterey cypress nicknamed Uncle Johns Tree and for 80 year has been San Francisco's official holiday tree.
