Get to know the history, heritage and soul of Harlem, the legendary neighborhood known internationally as the Black Mecca of the world. This explosion of cultural pride, defined as “Harlem Renaissance” derives its roots in 1890, when African Americans – after enduring centuries of slavery and the struggle for abolition - migrated to the North in great numbers, and relocated from the rural South to the urban North.

The tour will cross the Upper West Side, passing through landmarks such as Saint John the Divine Cathedral, Morningside Heights, Columbia University, Hamilton Terrace, Sugar Hill and the legendary Apollo Theatre.

You will later attend an authentic Baptist mass with a live gospel choir while joining a local church congregation. Clap your hands and experience the wonderful joyous gospel sounds in an intentionally repetitive, spiritual environment. Originally defined as strictly religious, the gospel genre has moved to the mainstream and has lefts its mark on many other types of music and popular culture
