John Rock Trail Running Tour

Every guide on our team has developed an intimate knowledge of our national forest and can offer you an in-depth history to all the areas we run in. Originally owned by George Vanderbilt, Pisgah National Forest is the oldest of its kind in the eastern United States and holds deep historical relevance among several generations.

Though different than a hiking tour, our running tours accommodate any pace - even if you may consider yours more of a hike. It's also expected that we will stop several times for photos along the way.

Itinerary

A classic Pisgah loop, the John Rock Trail Running Tour is just a short drive from Brevard or Pisgah Forest. Beginning at the Fish Hatchery, we'll run a ~5 mile loop through new growth forest, along fresh mountain springs, then visit an exposed slickrock overlook with epic views. With the Davidson River below and countless mountain peaks in the distance, expect to spend a few minutes soaking in the views. Minus a couple of brief, steep climbs, most of this loop is very runnable, with only minimal rocks and roots posing obstacles.

There are several variations of this loop for anyone looking for some extra miles. While there will likely be some hiking involved, this trip is friendly to newer runners, though seasoned ultrarunners equally enjoy it.

Afterward, we'll return to Ecusta Brewing for beer and food truck offerings.
