Legends of The Sunset Strip - BAR CRAWL

Part stand-up comedian, and part Hollywood historian, my passion is telling the true, wild, and FUNNY stories behind my favorite city. I will walk, talk and drink with you, covering the entire historic SUNSET STRIP. I have lived in LA for my entire life, so I can give you expert advice on all the hottest spots in the city.

Let me take you on a fun and funny trip back to the moments that made Hollywood INFAMOUS. From the gangsters of prohibition to the tragic rock stars of the 1960’s to the movie stars who throw wild parties in the hotels around us, THIS TOUR COVERS IT ALL.

We start at the rock clubs (The Roxy, The Whiskey A-Go-Go, The Viper Room) and evoke the ghosts of music past. Get your camera ready because once we get to Sunset Plaza, you’ll see all the Lamborghini's and Ferrari's you can handle. This area is where the rich and famous go to see and be seen.

Bars for quick drinks include:
-The Rainbow Room
-Saddle Ranch
-The Naughty Pig

Must be 21 years or older.

Itinerary

Pass By: Chateau Marmont, 8221 W Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90046-2484

The Chateau is still what it has always been: the place where stars hide out in plain sight (note the paparazzi pops of Drake or Drew Barrymore or Alicia Vikander coming up the drive), where writers hole up to write (or avoid writing), and where pop idols party (or sleep it off). The Chateau Marmont is Hollywood’s ultimate high-thread-count clubhouse, part no-tell motel and part royal roost, where bad boys and grandees, bohemians and TMZ trash, novelists and ne’er-do-wells, blue-chip artists and blue-haired ladies congregate, freely mixing with the general public and the staff. It’s possible that no hotel in America inspires so much nostalgia, speculation, and sheer devotion.

Stop At: Saddle Ranch Chop House, 8371 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069, USA

Saddle Ranch Chop House was founded in September 1999. Saddle Ranch Chop House is a destination restaurant where guests stay long after their plates have been cleared to enjoy a one-of-a-kind entertainment experience with friends and family.

Our concept is “Rock Meets Western”, which comes to life in every aspect of the construction, décor and operation of these unique restaurants. The rustic, ranch-style buildings are constructed of wood and stone, and decorated with western props and memorabilia, merging the feel of an Aspen ski lodge with the style of an old Western saloon, complete with faux balconies and saloon girls.

Duration: 30 minutes

Pass By: The Viper Room, 8852 Sunset Blvd. at Laherty, West Hollywood, CA 90069

In the 1940s The Melody Room opened as an intimate jazz club. Mobsters Bugsy Sigel and Mickey Cohen used it as a gambling den. In 1993 Johnny Depp purchased the venue and renamed it Viper Room, after a group of musicians known for smoking weed. The Viper Room was the site of River Phoenix’s tragic Halloween drug verdose in the same year. Here rising rock bands and headliners perform in this landmark gritty nightclub.

Pass By: Whiskey-a-Go-Go, 8901 Sunset Blvd. at San Vicente, West Hollywood, CA 90069

Former Chicago policeman Elmer Valentine opened Whisky A Go Go in 1964. A visionary, Valentine suspended the first female DJ above the dance floor in a glass cage. He created go-go girls, dressing employees in miniskirts and shows white boots to dance in cages throughout the venue. The Doors got their start here, and in 1966 became the house band right before releasing the song “Light my Fire”. Rock legends and rising stars play here—including Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Kinks, The Who and The Byrds.

Pass By: Comedy Store, 8433 Sunset Blvd. at East La Cienega Ave., West Hollywood, CA

In the 1940s, several popular West Hollywood venues opened. Billy Wilkerson of the Hollywood Reporter opened Ciros—a red-hot club frequented by Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart, Jimmy Stewart, Sammy Davis Jr, Jack Benny and Ava Gardner. In 1972, Mitzi Shore founded The Comedy Store on the same grounds. Comedians like Jim Carrey, Howie Mandel, Michael Keaton, Jay Leno. and David Letterman got their start at Amateur Night here. Letterman served as the club’s emcee for 3 years, and Richard Pryor chose The Comedy Store to make his 1992 comeback.
