Lower East Side Walking Tour
The Lower East Side neighborhood was a first stop for many immigrants after landing at Ellis Island. Italians, Irish, Polish, Germans, Russians, and Eastern Europeans all came to the Lower East Side to start a new life in the New World. Life was difficult. People were cramped in tenements and struggled to make a living. We will be walking through the neighborhoods where it all began for millions of people. We will learn about how they lived, how they earned a living, what they ate, and where they shopped. Historic remnants remain to be discovered and enjoyed. Like many New York City neighborhoods, the Lower East Side has evolved into a thriving community. We will be pointing out new construction, new housing, and the youthful vibe of new restaurants, hotels and rooftop bars that are attracting today's New Yorkers.
