Oak Alley and Laura Tour With Private Transportation

Enjoy a small-group 6-hour tour to Laura and Oak Alley plantations in Vacherie, Louisiana on a day trip from New Orleans. Experience a unique contrast between plantations only miles apart that were operating in the same time period. Start with the beautifully restored classic Creole manor of Laura Plantation, followed by the grandeur that is the Greek Revival mansion of Oak Alley Plantation. Transportation is provided in a luxury executive class van for up to 13 people.

Get picked up at your hotel or other location in central New Orleans and enjoy the driver's narration as you travel roughly 1 hour to the Laura Plantation. Learn about French Quarter history and architecture, the growth of New Orleans, the impact of Hurricane Katrina, and some basics of Louisiana bayou country and wildlife.

Upon arrival at Laura Plantation you will be greeted by a gift shop employee who will provide you with tour tickets and give you a few minutes to grab refreshments or use the restrooms before the tour begins. Laura Plantation's knowledgeable and experienced tour guides will then take you on a 1-hour guided tour of the classic Creole Manor, gardens, and grounds. This includes views into almost every room of the manor, a narrated tour of replica slave cabins, and an extensive education on the traditions and unique aspects of Creole culture and plantation life.

Once done with the guided tour guests will again will be given some time to peruse the gift shop, get refreshments, and use the restrooms before making the 10-minute drive to Oak Alley Plantation just down the road.

Upon arrival at Oak Alley Plantation you be will met at the front door by a tour greeter. Beverages are available for purchase at this point - including the classic southern cocktail, the mint julep. Beverages are allowed on the tour and lids are provided if you would like to bring one along.

The first portion consists of a 45-minute narrated tour of the first and second floors of the majestic mansion. The tour is made all the more interesting by the staff, who are outfitted in period costumes. The tour covers the history and operations of the plantation and sugar mills, the history of the families that have called Oak Alley home, and the many ups and downs of the mansion itself. The second portion of the tour is self-guided, leading you through the grounds and exhibits including several replica slave cabins.

The self-guided tour ends at the cafe, bar, and gift shop. Guests are invited to grab a bite and a beverage and peruse the gift shop for a bit before boarding the van for a 1-hour narrated drive back to the hotel.
