It is here that Thomas Jefferson resided as he penned the Declaration of Independence that would forever sever our ties with Great Britain and begin a new nation.

The names on the tombs within this historic burial ground are extensive and read as a who’s who of colonial Philadelphia. There are 1400 grave markers here. Probably the most famous tomb is that of Benjamin Franklin who rests beside his wife, Deborah and their four-­‐‑year-­‐‑old son, Francis. Actually Ben Franklin wrote his own epitaph when he was 23 years old.
