Open year-round, the Kalamazoo Nature Center is an organization whose mission is to inspire people to care for the environment by providing experiences that lead them to understand their connection to the natural world.  Recognized as one of the top nature centers in the country, it now includes 1,100 acres with 16 hiking trails through many diverse habitats. Public programs are held throughout the week, some with live animals including birds of prey. Indoor and outdoor activities and exhibits are popular and educational for all ages.     

The Kalamazoo Nature Center offers various exhibits as soon as you reach the Visitor Center. The exhibits are designed to showcase the plants and animals that you’ll find while exploring KNC. The exhibits allow visitors to experience sights, scents, and sounds associated with various habitats.

One featured exhibit is the Tropical Sun/Rain Room located at the center of the visitor center. This is a three-story atrium featuring a variety of tropical plants, live fish, turtles, and birds.

Also located in the visitor center is the Glen Vista Gallery. The gallery features a bi-monthly rotating exhibition of nature-themed art by top local artists. Here, there is also a wildlife viewing station for relaxation and observation. The highlight of the room is a view of the Beech Maple forest.

Another featured attraction is the Monica A. Evans Arboretum, home to the Hummingbird Butterfly Garden, Sculpture Tour, Nature’s Playground, and an abundance of trees to enjoy through all seasons. During the winter months, visitors enjoy snow-shoeing and cross-country skiing in the Arboretum.
