Portland's chocolate scene is overwhelming; let us navigate you through its origins, passionate makers, and diversity with this walking tour that delves into what some call "decadence" but we call "delight." Chocolate is a virtue! And when paired with wine, another specialty of the Willamette Valley, we believe you'll find this tour unmatched in breadth and deliciousness.

Our tour hits both the well-known highlights and some of the secrets of the chocolate scene, with a few surprises we don't want to give away. You'll taste chocolate in myriad forms and styles; think of it as a chocolate education. Trust that you will not leave the tour wanting!

The tour in total is about 2.5 miles (4km), mostly flat walking, with several tastings of chocolate -- just the right amount so you'll have room for wine as well! We keep groups very small, so you'll have an intimate experience with your enthusiastic guides.

Stop At: Cacao, 414 SW 13th Ave, Portland, OR 97205, USA

We’ll leave Director Park and walk several blocks to Cacao, a shop known not just for its delicious wares, but also for its cameo role in the TV show Portlandia (we'll explain!). Beyond pop culture, the important thing here is amazingly high-quality chocolate and the rich, dark house-made drinking chocolate. While we wait for the drinking chocolate to be prepared, we will peruse their curated collection of premier chocolate from craft producers around the world -- and chat a little about the difference between white and dark chocolates.

Stop At: Blue Star Donuts, 1155 SW Morrison St #102, Portland, OR 97205, USA

It's not an Around Portland Tours experience without at least talking about doughnuts! We'll walk by what we consider the best chocolate doughnut experience in Portland, and taste our favorites (based on availability the day of tour). If our favorite options are sold out, we'll send you away with an alternative goodie from a nearby shop that has its way with other sorts of cakes.

We'll walk down through the funky Portland West End and stop at Azar Indulgences, where owner Christine Azar has designed her ideal combination of both handcrafted Belgian-style chocolates from her family's company in Lebanon, and wine carefully selected from both local and international winemakers. Azar's one-of-a-kind chocolates are made in a family tradition going back over a century; we'll taste a selection of our favorite of these chocolates (although to be honest it's so hard to pick!) and wine, as well.
