Colourful Uzbekistan

A fairy-tale tour to the legendary towns of the ancient Silk Road in Samarkand, Buchara, Chiwa and Tashkent. On this trip you will discover the beauty of the Islamic architecture of the Orient. You will dive into the velvet colours of Central Asia and enjoy the relaxed and enjoyable eating and drinking culture of the region. But Uzbekistan is also modern, in particular the capital Tashkent – our starting point for this trip to fairy-tale Uzbekistan.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival-Tashkent

Stop At: Tashkent, Tashkent, Tashkent Province
You arrive in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, on the Uzbek airline Uzbekistan Airways. Flight time for about 6 hours.

Day 2: Tashkent-Urgench-Khiva

Stop At: Tashkent, Tashkent, Tashkent Province
Today we visit the historical complex of Khasti Imam in the Old Town. Then we go to the Chorsu Bazaar. After we will visit Independence Square and Timur Park. In the afternoon, we fly to Urgench. Arrival in Urgench, transfer to the hotel – Khiva.

Day 3: Khiva

Stop At: Itchan Kala, Khiva Uzbekistan
A highlight of your trip! The mud roads and the two-wheeled donkey carts, which are still part of the streetscape today, give you an idea of the unchanged way of living since the Middle Ages. On your trip through the historic center, you can admire the oriental ornaments and turquoise tiles of the richly decorated buildings and can understand that the old town of Khiva is rightly called “Ichan Kala” (open-air museum). Kuhna Ark, once the residence of the Khans of Khiva, the Juma Mosque – a Friday Mosque famous for its very artistically decorated 212 wooden columns, the Pakhlavon-Makhmud-Mausoleum, the Madrasa and Minaret of Islam Khodja – the wise vizier of Khan Muhammad Rakhim Khan as well as the Tash-Hovli-Palace. In the evening, you can enjoy sundown over the oasis.

Day 4: Khiva-Bukhara

Stop At: Bukhara, Bukhara, Bukhara Province
Impressive journey through the vegetated Kisilkum desert («Red Sand» – desert) and the vast steppes to Buchara (480 km). The route, we will make a lunch break in an Uzbek «guesthouse» resp. tea-room. We reach Buchara in the late evening when you will have time to explore the Old Town by yourself.

Day 5: Bukhara

Stop At: Bukhara, Bukhara, Bukhara Province
Today, you will take a tour on foot through the 2500-year-old town Bukhara. Sightseeing in the Citadel Ark, the mosque Bolo Havuz, the Chashma-Ayub, and the Samaniden mausoleums, the oldest buildings of Bukhara. In the afternoon, you will see the enormous architectural complex of Poikalon. You will visit the domed bazaars and trading streets of the Toqi-Sargaron goldsmiths, the capmakers Toki Telpak-Furushon, the architectural complex of the Kosh-Medrasa with the Ulugbek and Abdulasis-Khan medrasas. Then you can relax with a cup of tea at the cooling water basis in the Labi-Hauz-Complex. You can listen to some stories and legends in front of the monument of Nasreddin on the donkey, an Oriental version of Till Eulenspiegel.

Day 6: Bukhara-Rabbati Malik-Samarkand

Stop At: Samarkand, Samarkand, Samarqand Province
We start a journey to Samarkand. 

On the way, we visit the caravansarai Rabbati Malik and a Sardoba (reservoir).

Then we move on to one of the visiting cards of Uzbekistan, the famous Registan Square. We will also see the palace-like mausoleum Guri-Emir of the ruler Timur.

Day 7: Samarkand-Tashkent

Stop At: Samarkand, Samarkand, Samarqand Province
Excursion in Samarkand. We will visit the Ulugbeks-Observatory which was once the largest research centre in Central Asia, and Sjhakhi Zinda, the gravesite «living king», where today Timur’s family members are buried. We will visit the largest mosque in Central Asia: Bibi Khanum. Then we will visit Oriental Siyob Bazaar.  At 18:00h you take the fast train "Afrosiob" to Tashkent.

Day 8: Tashkent-Fly home

Stop At: Tashkent, Uzbekistan
Early return flight with Uzbekistan Airways.
