The tunnels of Cu Chi are an immense network of connecting underground tunnels located in the Cu Chi district of Ho Chi Minh City. The tunnels were used by Viet Cong as hiding spots during combat, as well as serving as communication and supply routes, hospitals, food and weapons caches and living quarters. Enjoy a shuttle bus northwest of Saigon towards the famous Cu Chi tunnels. Your ride will take you away from the main roads and along the river into the quieter agricultural regions. Alongside the roads around the Cu Chi area, large bamboo woven frames with circular rice paper sheets lying across them stand proudly. Most locals make a living from making rice paper as this simple ingredient forms the base of many Vietnamese dishes including fresh spring rolls. Stop to visit a workshop and learn about rice paper making, have a go if you are feeling brave. A visit to the underground villages will provide a better understanding of the tunnels history, the hardship of life in the tunnels and the Vietnamese resilience during combat. Meet your vehicle in the late afternoon for the shuttle back to your hotel in Saigon.
