My Lai, in the central Vietnamese district of Son My (150 km from Danang) was a watershed in the history of modern American combat and a turning point in the public perception of the U.S.-Vietnam War.
On March 16, 1968, the angry and frustrated men of Charlie Company, 11 Brigade, American Division, entered the village of My Lai. The "search and destroy" mission degenerated into the massacre of over 300 unarmed civilians including women, children and the elderly. Lt. William Calley ordered his men to enter the village firing. When the incident became public knowledge in 1969, it prompted widespread outrage around the world
At 7.00am, depart from hotel to Son My. On the way, we will have a quick stop in Dien Dan tower the same kind of Cham Pa temple. Around 11.00am, we reach to My Lai Massacre Site and start the visit of My Lai monument. This historical site was built on the land where the American troops massacred the local people in the morning of March 16th, 1968. You witness evidences of the massacre such as photos, shirts, a pair of sandal of a killed child, all kinds of cups and plates, cookers
. This was an absolute tragedy for the local people as they had no idea why the Americans committed this atrocity.
