White Water Rafting on the Zambezi River
Rafting on the Zambezi River is rated as the best white water rafting on our planet! Due to the fact that the Zambezi is a high volume river, which means that the rocks in the rapids are deep and thus the possibility of actually bumping into them is reduced dramatically. Also being a Pool drop river system the rapids are anywhere from 10 to 45 seconds long before washing into a calmer section of the river, where if anyone has fallen out, they can easily be recovered. Our guides have over 15 years experience on the Zambezi and as such are very experienced and will ensure that travelers are looked after from start to finish.
Itinerary
We meet in the Adventure Zone office, here clients are checked in and have a safety briefing before being transported to the top of the gorge containing the Zambezi river below the Victoria Falls. Here travelers are fitted with life jackets, helmets and issued paddles, separated into groups of 6 to 10 people per raft and introduced to their guides. Travelers then descend into the gorge which is a vertical distance of 110m at low water and approx 200m for the high water trips. The paths are steep and can be slippery, so trevelers are advised to take their time and be safe. At the bottom of the gorge travelers board their rafts with their guide and start to practice the skills needed to avoid the raft flipping and to get the timing of the paddling correct. Travelers then tackle the rapids of the mighty zambezi river, the river is a high volume (1.7km of waterfall going through a 50m wide gorge), pool drop (after every rapid which lasts max 45 seconds, there is a calm section to recover before the next rapid) river system. On completing the rapids, there is an approx 320m climb out of the gorge, at the top lunch and drinks are served, before transferring back to town and their hotels.
